Intersection Search¶
Clicking the intersection icon will zoom to each of the geometric intersections of the road center line segments. Click multiple times to jump to each potential location.
GPS Search¶
The GPS icon will zoom to the latitude and longitude provided by the police officer. The ‘Go to XY’ option is available if a latitude and longitude is given within the narrative of landmark field.
Address Search¶
Use the address search tool to locate a given street address. This tool queries the VGIN locator service to generate an address point. Be aware that this service is dependent on proper formatting.
Mile Marker Search¶
When necessary, use the mile marker search tool to query the VDOT Linear Referencing System’s measurement values for a given mile marker. This is a rough approximation and should only be used as such.
Google Search¶
Use the built-in Google Search tools or Google Maps to locate landmarks referenced in the crash documentation.
Annotations¶
Annotations allow information to be shared amongst the geocoding team. Any piece of information that was challenging to identify outside of the provided reference data should be captured with a brief annotation. Click a point on the map and leave a note to help others attempting to locate similar crashes in the future.
